After a vain try of Hyderabadi Dum Biryani, i was researching on the history of biryani over internet. The zest for marking down my research compelled me to blog it all down. Opened my gmail account to log on to my blog site.The mail at the top of the list was marked "Ring The Bell for IndiChange!" by Indiblogger.
And i was like, what a coincidence i was here to write on my blog and there is a contest calling me. It probably was a sign. As i sit down writing this post with a wretched heart i realize now what it meant.
I thought let me write something on this. But before i or any other like minded individual writing on solutions, does even know the root cause of problem? So I closed down all Dum biryani research and typed in "Why men rape women in India?". Being a NCR resident i think its the first atrocity that comes to my mind.
To my surprise there were lots of articles by psychologists in USA and none came from India. The most prominent were the articles about American Soldiers raping their female colleagues.
One such article was http://inthesetimes.com/article/3848/. And i read more such disturbing articles and did some more research.
All in all following was the central theme of various analysis, statistics and welfare programmes:
1. Misogyny : The word means 'hatred for women', being one of the main reasons for an individual to commit crime against women. This can develop among men whose performances is belittled as a women; "Ladki hai Kya", "ladkiyon ke tarah bhagta hai"; these are just extremely mild examples. Unacceptance of competitive and smart females hurting in male egos is another reason.
2. Damaged Male Psychology : Some experts pointed that history of child abuse could be one of the reasons for the current behavior of a rapist. A person with difficult childhood vents its suppressed anger in form of sexual offence.Did some research and an article posted in 2007 shows that 69% of indian children are abused and >72% of boys are abused. http://skeptic.skepticgeek.com/2007/05/04/indian-child-abuse-statistics-what-can-we-do/
No wonder when they grow up even as a responsible citizen, the damaged psychology instigates the repressed feelings of domination, revenge by sexual assault .
Children witness to domestic violence are also prone to manifestation of abuses in adolescence.
3. Culture: We as indians hold our culture with high regards. We are like ostritches with heads inside sand that such inhumanities are not possible in our culture. Sorry boss, these cruel criminals are part of your culture breeding under your breaths. The male domination mentality fuels more complications. Stereotyping females as housewives was good once, but not now. Independent women are free from social and economic fears hence need not submit to inept male ego. We need to realize that the culture and society also has to evolve.If society constitutionalizes a right, it becomes universally acceptable abolishing any social stigma. The long term solution to this problem starts from blending rationalization in our rigid culture.
4. Weak and Ignorent law: Filing an FIR or incident reporting is a nightmare in India. Even after "Nirbhaya" case we have seen a rising incidents of rape, insensitive remarks by police, politicians. The women help line nos are a show piece. When the law itself is making a joke of this serious issues how can you expect criminals to take the law seriously. The fight against this battle has to start from here.Either the law helds itself up or the victims will upheld the law. Either way a justified law has to prevail!!
Well these are just the root causes of the problem. I will write another post on some practical solutions.

क्यूंकि, मेरे लहू के सूर्ख गुलाबों में, वोह सुहागरात सजाये बैठे हैं !
छट गयी है बदली आज, एक धुप उमड़ उमड़ आई है.. फिर वही आगाज़ है,फिर वही तम्मानाएं अचेत होश में आई है! हसरत को उसने एक दिल्लगी बनायीं , छलावा हसीन वही पुराना है.. उफ़ का राही बनाकर आज़माइश करते रहिये , क़यामत तक बस यही एक दीवाना है! खून तेरे हाथों इतने की ,अब नए पुराने सारे माफ़ हैं... आशिकों के ढेर को, इस ज़माने को कंधे पर उठाना होगा! एक मेरा भी क़त्ल कर दो, कफ़न यह जज्बात मांगते हैं .... करम कर दो इतना,तेरे छलावे की टीस में रोज़ मरना अब गवारा न होगा !
This is just my attempt to clarify things for people who easily get misguided by articles wthout proof. If you are against Anna then read on. I am not asking you to support but dont get mislead by articles like these. My take: The article quotes"auto rickshaw drivers, and constables, if Haryana Police Sangathan support for Jan Lokpal's bill is any indication, and low paid government officials and assorted elements—have no idea that they are very much part of the corruption. They believe it is a disease outside them, primarily endemic to the government and its institutions, when they are active players in the drama" Do you think they are wrong? If the government cannot regulate the Auto Rickshaw license (mainly controlled by people in power and mafia) what choice these people at the bottom of the food chain have who have to buy licenses and rickshaw at almost twice the price.And mind you i am talking about the region which is capital of the nation.He has to indulge in malpractice because he does not have the POWER to stand up againt the corrupt POWERFUL OFFICIALS holding office.To silence their voice the government imposed a law that they cannot refuse a passenger to provide any service. The Goverment can feast onto the treasury filled by tax payers, but they cannot increase the salary of the "low paid government officials or police" who have to resort to corruption to not only feed themselves and many times unwillingly get involved to warm up the swiss trenches of the chain of command above them.Did the government tackle inflation,provide subsidies,lowered tax rates for this class of democratic nation so that they do not resort to these practices? Another quote from the article: "those whom you elected will not be of as much consequence as those self appointed or government nominated Lokpal committee members" The Election Commision and all other bodies not under ministry have partially failed to check the malpractices involved in election procedure and completely failed to take any legal action against the elected representatives for their misconduct as prescribed to them by influential POWERful people. Who will then check them respected Parliament? Do you have an answer? Amend the consitution, make an autonomous body capable of this. But no you did not for your own profit.It finnaly boiled down to the common man's civil movement to execute their democratic rights to have you do the same.Do you realize now why everyone of you is calledCIVIL SERVANT or PUBLIC SERVANT.And yes it pinches and panicks the government when common man whose silence that you are used to churns into slogans and mass support. Sadly all these above cannot be proved, but it exists deep in society and i DARE say "primarily endemic to the government and its institutions".Prove us WRONG.All hypothetically but physically existing deep rooted in system. The movement may get tarnished, but this is what we who elected the government now want. Its a welcome change for the nation marred,bruised with plundering of wealth and the elected POWERful representative warming their asses with a lipstick. This is not just a potshot to people against movement, i would just like to echo this common sentiment of the people.Try to digest it first as below. A basic requirement to eradicate this disease of corruption is monitoring and checking of POWERful people who not only resort to these practices but also using the office authority involve people down the chain to indulge in same. If the people in POWER are checked, things should get normal.
